Fashion & Me

SO i am plus size, curvy, fat, however you want to term it. Not something I’ve always been happy/ comfortable with, but hey thats life

In an effort to find new ways to be comfortable i treated myself to tickets to The Curve Fashion Festival, this this year held in Liverpool. The main aim of my visit was to check out all plus size brands and ranges who were showcasing their collections. and i wasn’t disappointed.

the room was filled with stands, with collections from  River Island, Simply Be, Navabi,Yours, Gemma Collins etc.

The centre of the room dominated by a catwalk and a how to stage where various events would be show cased during the day

There were also stands show casing independent brands such as Emmy Designs, Miss Beauty Curve and the Plus Size Bridal store Edith & Winston

I had such a great day and treated myself throughly ( reviews and posts to come). it was nice to be able to see the products, try them on and buy without having to order several sizes just to get one that fits. I hope to return next year for more treats

(bomber jacket & Shirt dress above both from Yours Clothing)

here is my face!

so i am very much an all the gear no idea kinda gal with most things in my life.

My face is one of them. i have all the makeup and brushes a girl might need but no clue how to slap it on and make it look good.

therefore i enlisted the help of the gorgeously talented  Frankie Noone from @frankie_noone on twitter and frankienoone on the old instagram to help make me look semi human

you get me right?

so i wanted a perfectly natural day look.

nailed it

then i wanted to be able to build it up for a subtle evening look. this is where i usually struggle, I add far to much and look like i just dived into my mums make up bag and motorboated the blush.

apologies for the extreme close up and grey roots but hey thats life

Frankie’s studio is a work of pure joy, and she is a total babe

So here goes my attempt to look more human on a day to day basis

FYI

Make up used was mostly Chanel, MAC, Benefit and NYX

what goes up…….

So i decided to challenge myself earlier in the year. Climb Ben Nevis, ambitious i know. then disaster, I  partially tore my achilles tendon junction late in 2015.

still i was determined to get fitter and do it.

so off i set with some of my guy pals to camp and climb.

we stayed at Glen Nevis campsite Friday – Monday, giving ourselves 2 full days incase the weather was dodgy.

you really can experience 4 seasons in one day. We decided to head up on the Saturday as that had the best forecast. and boy were we right. the weather was glorious and the views were breathtaking.

now we didn’t exactly rough it we had electric hook up and took a slow cooker and George Foreman grill, but hey its 2016.

we also took the opportunity to visit the local town of Fort William while we were there. Not so much to write home about but was nice enough to visit, and partake in a bit of bowling!

Sadly i didn’t make it to the top, my friends did however so thanks to them for the pictures from there.

My plan is to get my leg 100% better and try again next year!

but hey i had a super weekend so no complaint here!

just for reference here is the mountain the day after we went up……. oh wait its hidden behind that low cloud!!

Haddon Hall – Country Living

Now i am  little nerdy, not a bad thing but something i fully acknowledge.

So when i was away for the weekend recently i took the opportunity to visit Haddon Hall.

Nestled away in beautiful Derbyshire Haddon Hall is probably the finest example of a fortified medieval manor house in existence. Present-day Haddon Hall dates from the 12th Century to the early 17th Century, whereupon it lay dormant for over two hundred years from 1700 until the 1920s, when the 9th Duke and Duchess of Rutland restored the house and gardens, and once again made it habitable.

Avoiding fire; warfare; family misfortune and changing fashions, little has changed over recent centuries and Haddon provides a unique view of early English life and history.

the views from the garden were quite breathtaking, as you can see.

now if only i could win the Lotto and buy myself a little slice of Country Living

Y Not?

Before you berate me for the terrible grammar/ spelling I am talking about the Y Not? Festival 2016.

Now i have to admit i hadn’t heard of this festival before a friend very kindly asked me to accompany them for the weekend, and i wasn’t disappointed

Now the line up was pretty similar to that of Kendal Calling, with headliners being Editors, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Maddness, The Hives, Blossoms, etc. some pretty big bands I’m sure you agree. And how could I forget The Lancashire Hotpots

But as always some of the less well know bands on earlier on the main stages and smaller stages managed to catch my attention. Those of note for me were Circa Waves, Eliza and the Bear, Coasts and most of the Country and Western ones in the Saloon Bar.

Essentials

  • Tent – erm kind of a given
  • Sleeping bag (s) – double for nighttime warmth
  • Pillows – coz, well i like some comfort
  • Food/ Drinks – Free dried pastas and bottled water and of course the obligatory cider is a must for me!
  • Lanyard – i mean not only do you look super cool but also you can plan your stages
  • Sanitiser – if i need to explain why then we can’t be friends!
  • Head torch – ( see picture) – just for fun and hey see how awesome i look!

this is definitely one of the festival line ups i will be checking out next year

Amsterdam Apartment

So as many of you know i have a little love for the old travel bug.

Well this last month i went on a little trip to the beautiful city of Amsterdam with a few of my gal pals.

We found a lovely City Centre Apartment close enough to the town centre to walk in and far enough away to have a peaceful night sleep.

the 3 rooms comfortably slept the 6 of us, we had our own lounge and kitchen and the all important WIFI

but the stairs, oh the stairs, i wouldn’t be exaggerating (ok maybe a little) to say they were vertical, like climb a mountain vertical

IMG_3735

ok i know they don’t look it but i felt like i conquered Everest everyday getting up and down them!

i’ll cover some of the more touristy things i did in the coming posts, but for now i leave you with this beautiful croissant ( little treat for climbing those damn stairs!)

Things I’m learning in my 30’s

At the beginning of the year I turned 35. Thats right, officially mid 30’s, officially an adult, a grown up. You know!

And in the 4ish short months this year has been with us I’ve come to realise a few things.

1) I’m not in my 20’s, now you’d think that was obvious but it’s harder to realise then you think. I’m in that weird in between age that zero clothes shops cater for, I’m constantly battling being dressing like my mum or looking like a try hard. Help!

2) find a good hairdresser, befriend them, be nice to them and they will always see you right

3) to always condition my hair, like on every wash. And also I don’t have to blow dry it every time I wash it

4) skin care regime is important in currently loving these by Elemis. I try and look after my skin as much as possible. However more often then not I do it for 3 days and then forget then before  you know it it’s the next week. Must make more of an effort

5) to try and cook more from scratch. I’m not the greatest cook, not by a country mile but I try and I’m trying more. I made this dish by the Hairy Dieters at the weekend. Pretty delish if I say so myself

6) to travel more. Not always to foreign lands but to explore the area I live in. Explore the country I live in. But also sometimes to those foreign lands, meet new people, try new food, see other peoples cultures and heritage

7)look after myself. This is the one thing I’ve just realised but yet to put into practice. This is the one thing I need to work on.

Till next time, I’m just off to find out where all the other 30 something people are at

Sunday funday

Sunday’s are strange aren’t they?

Saturday’s are all about shopping, lunching, catching up with friends, partying and so on. But Sunday’s are just a pre-Monday build up, chores, food shopping, laundry, blah blah blah

Well this week I decided to go out for Sunday dinner! I know out for dinner, on a Sunday!

It’s so hard to find places that aren’t chains these days (well it is in my area). So when my friend asked me out to lunch we headed to somewhere I hadn’t been for a few years The Swan

But wait it’s now a chain also!

But we had some eating to do so asked for a table anyway, and I’m so glad we did

The inside was decorated so light and airy, with 3 separated eating areas. We were given 3. Menu choices, Main menu, fish specials and Sunday sepecials.

As always I can’t decide on starter or desert so spoiler alert I had all 3!

Starter of spinach soup

Not my usual choice but damn tasty

What do you do when you can’t decide which meat to have with your roast, that’s right all 3

And pudding had to be my new obsession salted caramel. The salted caramel, brownie and cheesecake sundae, but with no whipped cream extra salted caramel sauce, obviously

All in all a delicious afternoon!

When in doubt…… Shop

So I’m having a bit of a crisis of confidence lately. I’m a little bit blah and little bit meh and a little bit Eurgh

So I decided to treat myself to some new threads. Mainly in the shape of jackets.

I’ve never been a cost person, who am I kidding I’m not really a fashion person

Anyways at the moment I only own one coat, a thick winter type one, a denim jacket and a leather jacket. Both now slightly to small

As I have no shopping buddies local to me I did the next best thing, online shopathon

Browsed the usual plus size sites before remembering the haven that is ASOS CURVE

so here we go, first up is this gorgeous Oversize denim jacket

Perfect to cover all the bits you want covered but still want to rock a double denim day

Next let his little Bird print Mac, I’m thinking perfect for those chance of light rain dog walk days

And lastly this casual but cute  Blue Skater Mac, hoping this will be my new got to coat!

And while I was in a roll I added this cute Picnic basket style bag, perfect for upcoming days out!

So while my bank balance lies weeping in my arms my life feels a little brighter
