The year to date

Hello gentle viewers, how are we all doing?

So 2018 is just flying so thought I would catch you up on where I am. So I took a break from the old blog as I just didn’t feel like I had anything worth talking about, I’d lost my inspiration and well basically life just got in the way.

But starting to feel like I’m ready to be back so here we go, quick recap on the year so far

January

New year, new me…….. nah i started with 10000937463 resolutions as always and right now I can’t remember a single one. Had a birthday, the big 37 came and went with the minimal of fuss, and by that I mean no one remembered, my own fault for taking it of my Facebook but come on guys.

February

Returned the old bouffant to its more natural colour, brunette. So far it not the worst so I can live with that. Found out I had a place on the great north run so quite chuffed about that so pretty excited to start training. Started a new work placement in London, which has been fun if a little ( a lot) expensive.

Oh yeah and then subsequently handed my notice in

March (so far)

Cut my hair super short, loved it for 0.00064 seconds. Pierced my nose again! Bought all the books, way to many for any sensible person to reasonably want but hey.

I’m also setting some new goals/resolutions because who says they just for Jan 1st.

1) hardest but most interesting. Not cutting my hair till I’m 40. That’s right 34 months to see what can be done, I must caveat this by saying there may be the odd trim and shaping into style while it’s growing otherwise it’s just going to be a little to cray for work etc

2) read at least 1 book a month. Should be easy but as life gets so busy sometimes it’s the little things that slide. If you have any recommendations let me know.

3) train for the GNR, its a half marathon but as someone who can’t currently run 5k this is going to be super hard. Send me all your positive thoughts please.

4) get these expenses and debts sorted, curb the spending and start the saving.

I’ll be tracking the old hold hair progression as I go. Here we are at present

Speak soon lovelies

Bags for life

So my not to secret guilty secret are bags. I love them, I can’t stop buying them and I’m running out of excuses to keep buying them.

But before that happens I’m going to share my latest treats.

Now as you may or may not know my parents live in France and whenever I visit I’m always mesmerising by the fashion. Now I know they gave many of the same shops as we have here but they obviously have different stock.

Now bags are a different matter. I love the designs in Desigual, they are just different, quirky and I can never just choose one…….. so this time I chose 2

This cute tan and tapestry Boho one, smaller then my usual style but I couldn’t resist

And this super denim one (oh yes and the purse ooooooops)

Every so often I gift my bags to friends who’ve always said they liked them or charity shops but it’s the hardest item of all to give up

Wish me luck

Favourite summer look

Summer, you remember that right? I think we had about a week of it here in the UK. Anyway blessed with a tan from my holiday to Jamaica I attended the wedding, well vow renewal of some old friends.

I’d had my eye on a maxi dress for some time, just a matter of finding the right one. Then after spotting this beauty on twitter I had to get it from Simply Be

It was perfect, I mean look at it.

The prefect summer dress. Teamed with summer wedges and this gorgeous embroidered bag from New Look.

Wedding outfit complete

All about holding onto those last sunny days………. oh and burgers

What I did on my holidays

So this years summer travels took me across the sea to beautiful Jamaica. More specifically the luxury Bahia Principe Runaway Bay and it was stunning.

The rooms were decked out with either a super deluxe king bed or 2 doubles, tv, fully stocked mini fridge, bottle of vodka and rum.  Jacuzzi bath, double sink bathroom, toilet, shower etc. But rooms are rooms anywhere.

We chose the luxury side as it was adults only, so no kids. Personally heaven for me. Unlimited visits to the a la carte restaurants, branded spirit drinks etc.

My favourites were the Jamaican and Japanese. Mainly for the food but the shows they put on are super fun. Oh and who doesn’t love a good buffet breakfast

The beach was exquisite, private and peaceful. I tried to get down there each morning before others arrived. Just to have some me time

Pools were clean with constant entertainment or quieter areas if you wanted to peace, grounds lush and green.

This was 2 weeks of relaxation, reading and rest

Below are a few of my holiday essentials;

Sunscreen and after sun lotions -stay safe

Books, with my personal recommendations

Sunglasses these are Joanie Clothing

Chub rub stick

Bug repellent

And the famous big cup, super for filling with cocktails and keep it them cool

A photo worth…….

As we move into a new year, and a world ever more obsessed with the instant digital world, having our every thought and desire at our  fingertips, I realised something.

I couldn’t remember the last time I physically developed a picture. I take them all the time, every day in-fact of mostly meaningless things, but don’t ever commit entirely to the process of developing them.

So after considering for sometime I treated myself to an instant camera. My grandma had a polaroid camera when I was a child, I used to love playing with it and pretending to take photos, I was never actually trusted to use it when there was any film inside (well rarely)  but it wasn’t the point.

So after a little research I opted for the Instax Mini 70, by Fujifilm. It came with 10 films and the battery already to go. My OH treated me to a case for it for our wedding anniversary, perfect for protecting the camera, especially with my known clumsiness. The camera is really easy use and super fun.

The images are smaller then those the polaroid used to produce but I love them!

Off i went on a little walk with the puppy to have a play, and i couldn’t have been more thrilled with the results

you are all Invited

So i recently joined in a twitter chat with the We are Thirty Plus crew, the topic of the week was perfumes. Specifically it was in collaboration with Michael Buble’s new scent, By Invitation

Now I’ve never done a perfume review, mainly because I’m not great with describing smells, well not in the way that a PR company would probably like.

However following the chat the peeps behind the chat contacted me to say I had ‘won’ a bottle of the scent and low and behold it arrived on my doorstep a few days ago

So here we go,

First impressions of the packaging – clean, crisp, classy. Just like the main man himself!

Then to the bottle – well designed, a little quirky, cute, different. Certainly identifiable and will be kept and added to my empty collection once finished.

So for the big finale

The scent itself is crisp and fresh, lasted all day , as always the smell changed as the day goes on but it never faded away to nothing. I have received quite a few compliments this week and been asked a few times what perfume I’m wearing, always a good sign. It’s not fussy, overpowering or spicy.

I couldn’t tell you what the smell contains specifically but it certainly ticks all the boxes for me

Essently its the perfect perfume and I’m sure will become one of my go to scents in future

Glass half full?

So you may or may not know this so if you do bare with. I have struggled of the past 15 years to accept who I am, some days I’m happy, some days I’m not, but I think most people are like that.

I recently spoke to a friend who is experiencing something similar and after a long chat I felt much better about it all. however it doesn’t take much to get me questioning myself again.

one area I’ve struggle to accept my situation is babies. That’s right those little bubbles of joy and happiness. Sadly I can not conceive naturally, due to a few different reasons, which I won’t go into in to much detail. TMI and all that

However I can influence some of them through weightless. Now as I’m sure some of you may have experienced yourself it’s not just as simple as eating salad for a few days. In my case this requires a mental, physical and emotional commitment that can be hard to start and harder to maintain. My end goal in terms of weightloss is huge (double digits people!). And the support you get it variable. Some people think they are helping when saying ‘having a baby should be the biggest motivation’ yeah of course it is but also a huge pressure!

I digress. So where was I……… oh yes so again I have set off on a mission to shed the pounds and start my family, that old bio clock is a ticking after all.

my beautifully kind friend Liz made me these following our chat.

knowing I am a visual person, she thought that seeing my progress grow might help me stay motivated.

time will tell.

i’ll keep you updated if the stones move

if you go down to the woods today….

so, once a year me and my girlfriends head of to the woods for some peace, relaxation and reflection……

ok so maybe i mean we take enough drink to satisfy a sailor, and essential spend the weekend doing what the hell we want, either way its OUR weekend.

so this year, like every other, we packed our page and loaded up the car and headed for Centre Parcs (Whinfell).

this year we treated ourselves to one of the new all singing, all dancing, all hot-tubing, cabins.

this place was a dream, hot tub, en suite rooms, sauna, steam room. this place had it all.

this was heaven, pure heaven!

centre parks is such a special place for me and my girlfriends, thats why we keep going back. yes it can be pricey if you’re going as a family but as we pay for ourselves it works out pretty cheap.

this year we went bowling, took a pottery painting class and generally relaxed in our tub.

the site has so many extras, tropical pool with slides, wave machine and rapids, archery, high ropes, climbing, bike riding, spa, ports centre, segway etc

there are also such a wide selection of restaurants, Cafe rouge,Bella Italia, Starbucks, Takeaway service and even a Pancake House

all in all another successful trip

Same time next year!

Fashion & Me

SO i am plus size, curvy, fat, however you want to term it. Not something I’ve always been happy/ comfortable with, but hey thats life

In an effort to find new ways to be comfortable i treated myself to tickets to The Curve Fashion Festival, this this year held in Liverpool. The main aim of my visit was to check out all plus size brands and ranges who were showcasing their collections. and i wasn’t disappointed.

the room was filled with stands, with collections from  River Island, Simply Be, Navabi,Yours, Gemma Collins etc.

The centre of the room dominated by a catwalk and a how to stage where various events would be show cased during the day

There were also stands show casing independent brands such as Emmy Designs, Miss Beauty Curve and the Plus Size Bridal store Edith & Winston

I had such a great day and treated myself throughly ( reviews and posts to come). it was nice to be able to see the products, try them on and buy without having to order several sizes just to get one that fits. I hope to return next year for more treats
