Amsterdam Apartment

So as many of you know i have a little love for the old travel bug.

Well this last month i went on a little trip to the beautiful city of Amsterdam with a few of my gal pals.

We found a lovely City Centre Apartment close enough to the town centre to walk in and far enough away to have a peaceful night sleep.

the 3 rooms comfortably slept the 6 of us, we had our own lounge and kitchen and the all important WIFI

but the stairs, oh the stairs, i wouldn’t be exaggerating (ok maybe a little) to say they were vertical, like climb a mountain vertical

IMG_3735

ok i know they don’t look it but i felt like i conquered Everest everyday getting up and down them!

i’ll cover some of the more touristy things i did in the coming posts, but for now i leave you with this beautiful croissant ( little treat for climbing those damn stairs!)

It’s good to talk….

So todays assignment, to take inspiration from a previously followed/ read post.

So here goes, and i hope i don’t lose any of you who might not relate to this one.

I am currently half way through a little project i like to lovingly call ‘Operation who am i?’ (not really but sounds good hey?!)

A few years ago i got a wake up call.

I have been getting bigger and bigger since a traumatic incident in my early 20’s, one i am not going to go into now, and i finally saw some pictures and realised i didn’t recognise myself.

this one in particlar

DSCF2055

this is me and my mum, at her house on the day of my sisters wedding.

i cried, and still do when i see it. it’s hideous.

i had not long been to the hospital and found out that i couldn’t have children, well until i lost around 12 stone! to put that in perspective that is more than my sister weighs, i essentially needed to lose a whole person!

i was devastated, i had been kidding myself about my weight and size for such a long time but here it was for everyone, well mostly me to see.

how could i have been so blind?

this was 3 years ago. i have now lost around half what is needed. and that sadly was the easy part.

i have recently lost my motivation for why i started and seriously need to find my mojo.

have any one seen it?

but there is a bright side, because as you know i am not a negative Nelly.

i have lost half my goal, i am so much fitter and healthier then i was.

i am going to give myself sometime at the weekend to just sit down and map out the next part of my plan.

so there it is!

this blog is not purely focussed on my weightless journey because i am so much more then that but i will update at various milestones.

hope i didn’t lose to many of my new readers there

Day 6 and the final weigh in

So we’ve made it through to the last full day on camp. And if you were thinking that the team would start to take it easy on us  ……… you’d be wrong.
Our last ever morning cardio was the dreaded dune run, all I could remember from last time was that the more I ran the more sand I acquired.  And this was no different. But I managed to make it round 6 times which was great for me. Hardest part is the ‘run’ ( more like scramble) up the dune!
After 1/2 hour we were back to base for breakfast and then we had our 1-2-1’s with the trainers,  a little private time to reflect on way we’d done, and set out a plan for the future.  This is a great opportunity to really pick their brains and get some personal trainer time.

The straight into combo circuits, another tough session but we all gave it the final push!

After lunch it was our last set of team sports,  a ‘friendly’ came of Bucketball,  archery and volleyball. Sadly archery got rained of part way through but after a quick break we were straight back out.

Then final abs blast.  It seemed unbelievable that it had all ended again, the week just flew by.

So now I guess it’s what you’d all been waiting for the results.

So a final but of background.
My last visit to camp I was 2 1/2 stone heavier and i managed to lose 15 lbs and 52cm in the week.
Mindful that i was now lighter and fitter I was unsure what to expect………

Stepping on fhe scales i was so nercoid bur then Caroline told me she was shocked and my heart sank had i actaully put weught on! No the scores were in, i was now 18 lbs lighter and another 40cm smaller. That’s right 18 lbs in 6 days, I couldn’t believe it. All my hard work, sweat and aching muscles had all been worth it. I was now also the camps official biggest female loser on a 7 day camp and I still had the largest cm lost from previous camps.

I’m not sure the team will ever know how truly grateful I am to them but I will show them by carrying on and getting to my goal

Taking it old skool……

The past few weeks I’ve taken things up a notch in trying new things, or returning to old loves.
Last week I laced up some old fashioned roller boots and attempted to recapture the fearless joy of my youth. I had visions of effortlessly floating around the floor while the music matched my movement…… The reality was a little different.
Even lacing up the boots was harder then I remember,  somehow the co-ordinated 14 year old had turned into a 34 year old chubster, skittling round the floor grabbing the sides and not being able to stop without hurtling myself into the sides.
That being said it was the most fun I’ve had on wheels since……. well since I was 14.
Will definitely be returning

Next time let’s find out how my face ended up this red…….

Treats for me…….

So there’s nothing I love more then being busy, ok there is but I can’t spend all day eating cupcakes in bed.
Anywho by being busy I mean planning what to do with my time.
So last Sunday, after seeing a post on the old Facebook I decided to head to Hoghton Tower for a vintage craft fair.
Now I’d love to think I’m the kind of gal who can pull of vintage wear and still look cute, but as a slightly curvy girl I find its not always easy. Anyway I digress.
The weather wasn’t the best but my love of kitsch and cute won me over.
So after much looking, ooooooing and arrrrrring I settled on a scarf, head bands, greetings cards and a cute framed pic

Now I have 4 days of work and need to get planning what to do with my time………….

A modern day miracle…..

Ok ok ok I admit I might have slightly exaggerated the outcome of this post, but before you stop scrolling bare with me.

So not sure about you but any regular shampoo/ conditioner user may have faced this heartache more then once. When one bottle, usually shampoo empties before the other.  Then you’re left with the dilemma,  do you buy the same brand conditioner again, just use shampoo alone, mix and match products, or shelve the remaining shampoo and start 2 bottles of fresh product.
Is any of this sounding familiar?
Ok I’ve probably lost some of you by now but stay with me.
Now I am a fickle fellow when it comes to haircare, generally only using what’s on offer when I go shopping so i’m either in mix and match mode or shelve and start a fresh…..

That was until Wednesday morning when this happened

That’s right people both my shampoo and conditioner expired at the same time…..

Praise be a Miracle I think you can all agree

With that in mind I’m of to buy a lottery ticket

Till next time lather rinse repeat

Debt free……… The myth made real

So at the grand old age of 34 I, Miss Rebecca Eleanor Ryan, became debt free. Well maybe i should be more specific I still have my gown up mortgage debt but hey don’t we all.
What I mean is I don’t have the dead weight of my student life and subsequent living alone life around my neck.
To say I have never been good with money is like saying the Pope’s a little but religious,  so now you know the scale we are dealing with.
Credit cards, catalogues (well modern day equivalent) , the dreaded pay day lenders, overdrafts ( yes multiple) and missed payments on various bills meant the red letters soon started arriving. Plus a nasty CCJ, from a previous employer whom decided to chase me for money they paid towards my 2nd degree, left me feeling like I was drowning in the sea of debt.
I turned to a debt management company for help, and thank Buddha I did. They arranged all my repayments, dealt with all my creditors and basically took away my stress.
This was circa 2009 and as of Feb 2015 all have been cleared.
Thanks to changing jobs , meaning I could increase my repayments and an unexpected inheritance (not a lot before anyone thinks it was some super windfall),  I have been able to clear all these debts.
I cannot emphasise how amazing this felt and now getting all my confirmation letters from said creditors that the balance is now £0 made all the ‘living on a shoestring’ years worth it.

So now, apart from my bills, all my wage is my own.
So the question is have I learned from my mistakes? Can I save? Can I live within my means?
Watch this space……….

Failing to plan is planning to……

Something my dad used to say and never really thought much of it until now.
Now I’ve always been a planner, obsessed with lists and constantly reorganising drawer, wardrobes etc but it wasn’t until i decided to start blogging that I realised that although some posts can be of the cuff and inspired by something you’ve just seen/ done/ thought about its always good to have some back ups.
So tonight while I’m trying to get an early night,  and clearly failing miserably, I decided to write a list of some ideas for up coming blogs.

image

So yes while watching Netflix , another great procrastinating pastime, I wrote a blog about what I’m going  to blog about. Good huh
Any ideas of your own to add to my list?

Oh well series 6 of House won’t watch itself

Till next time Mon amis
