Girl, meets world, meets life

Bootcamp day 2 – it starts get serious

Another day at  Northern Bootcamp another 7am start

today its running and Fartlek, this is form of HIIT (high intensity interval training) which requires changes of pace at various markers (if im remembering this correctly). The session was taken by the very lovely Bruce (yes Boss!!) all techniques and variations fully explained and demonstrated and off we go.

30+ very sweaty minutes later its all over and breakfast time, then a strength Seminar and a walk to indoor gym for Circuits

this was a tough session taken by Dave ( big softie deep, deep, deep down, i promise!) but did leave me looking like this!

then base to base for a snack and a kettlebell vs Suspension system (TRX) session. one of most groanworthy sessions, second day in and muscles are sore but earning every groan!

Dinner of chicken skewers and salad…. yummy yummy

then straight back out for team games! all hidden exercise and loved it, won’t spoil them for anyone thinking of going but they are great fun and really help you make friends with the other guys on camp great ice breaker!

every day ends with an abs blast, a half hour session concentrating on abs and core work! and as someone who has no core this is usually comedy town for me but i tried my best as always

then tea, tonight was a starter and main option

Wonder whats instore for us tmorrow

Bootcamp Day 1

So 2 years ago almost to the day I attended a week at Northern Bootcamp, a northeast based bootcamp.
It was without doubt one of the best weeks of my life and without being overly dramatic can honestly say it changed my entire outlook on so many things.
I lost 15 lbs and 52cm, but gained so much from my time there.
So much so that I decided to treat myself to a return visit.
So friday afternoon I packed my nearly all new collection of t shirts,  workout pants and trainers and travelled across to the gorgeous Northumberland coast.
I’d opted for a 4 person share room as I thought it would be a great way to get to know other campers, and on these kind of things having a good set of people can really make the week.
Night 1 we did weights and measures, went for a nice little walk and then had some homemade tomato soup and oatcakes.
With instructions from the team to meet at 7am we attempted an early night.
So proper day 1 begins
We all met at 7 for a fitness test. Pairing up we tackled 2 mins of sit ups and push ups, hard but good as the figures are recorded for comparison later on. Then a drive to the beach for a warm up and before you know it it’s 2nd part of fitness test. The button run. This is where markers are set at 100m,  300m, 600m and 1k,  aim is to collect as many button in 30 minutes. Scores to be revealed later in week.

We were accompanied on our run by a pod of dolphins swimming close to the shore, a truly gorgeous site any time of day.
The  home for a rest and breakfast, scrambled egg, mushroom, spinach and some bread substitute toasted ( i later found put it was Rye bread) . Then the official welcome meeting with the team.
Next was a boxing circuit, followed by snack then outdoor larger circuit and dinner
The afternoon we got to choose either bike ride or sea kayaking.
Guess what I chose?!

And yes it was absolutely as cold as it looks,  more snacks then home for an abs blast class then tea including pudding, my favourite part of any meal
After today’s activities I’m definitely ready for bed and excited for tomorrow

Come back soon to see what else the guys at Northern Bootcamp have in store for us!

What a week…. The good the bad and the fugly

So I’ve had one of those totally random weeks where you don’t know if you’re coming or going.
Started of as any other week, work on Monday no better or worse the any other, saw some puppies but more of that to come I’m sure,  Tuesday same old same old, hypnotherapy and college,  again more of that to come.  Then came Wednesday, or hump day as us youth like to say (*obviously I’m not a youth and I’m 99.9% sure no youth would ever say that! )
Anywho I digress, Wednesday is netball day. Now we are not your typical netball team. We are aged between 16-40+ and every size and shape in between.  Are we any good? Debatable, we don’t win often but we do have fun. Anyway Wednesday went to script, a loss but to a good team so that’s ok.
The trip home however was not. We got a flat tyre on the motorway. Not a major emergency I know but throw in the fact that the car had no spare tyre, the driver no breakdown cover and 5 girls in netball dress, and you start to see the issue.
We were cold, and by cold I mean 2 weeks in the Arctic started to sound like tropical paradise.
Anywho 2 1/2 hours later the tow truck arrived and we were fangirling like those old videos you see of beagle mania.

So that was Wednesday,  then Thursday night we entered grown up mode and entered into a new phase of operation ‘Home Improvement’ .
New flooring!
Ooooooo I hear you say and you’d be right oooooo indeed.
Our old laminate was a thing of nightmares, pine, cheap and starting to gap! Laid by my OH 14+ years ago it’s time was definitely up and Thursday night so was it!

Bye bye vile 90’s floor and friday saw a big hi there and hello to new 2015 drop it like it’s hot floor!

Sexy yes?!

And then Saturday,  well Saturday saw the arrival of…….

Like I said more to come on these fugly puglies soon

Well I’m off to enjoy a star wars marathon because, well it is May 4th*

* resisting the urge to say May the 4th be with you…….. Damn it

Eyes down……..

Following on from my last trip back to my youth (see roller skating adventures) I decided to go do another oldy-  worldy pastime. BINGO! Oh and not just any old bingo, not the shiny flashy ones we see in tv. I mean an old school, blue rinse, games for 20p type place.
I was visiting with a friend in the lakes and we were stuck for something to do so of we went.
Did we win? No
Did we have a scream? Yes
We picked up the lingo ‘sweating for a number’ etc
And all round had a great time.

Despite no win the evening was super fun.
There was some clear rivalry between some groups of ladies, think sharks and jets (West side story) but with old lady perms and cardigans, but everyone came together for a link game versus the next town over…… things got pretty intense, well. As much as you can on beta blockers

So what’s next for this non stop rock n roll lifestyle I’m living I hear you cry?
Well i could tell you all about my growing diy skills or let you help name my puppies (actual dogs not a euphemism)
Stay tuned to see which way I go*

*spoiler I’m going to do both.  I’m just that crazy
