days out

A change is as good as a……..

So I think we are all in agreement now that Autumn is here. The shops are full of new hats and scarfs, and my favourite the fingerless, mitteny gloves.

So how else to celebrate then by wrapping up and heading out

The daily dog walk has quickly becoming my favourite thing, especially now my puppy is getting better at being of the lead. This means we can head of into the woods.

Sometimes it just all comes together, cool weather, sun shining and playful puppy.
Then on Saturday my most favourite of things…….. Firework display. The musical firework championships were on in Southport so we bundled into the car and down to the beach we go.

The display was brilliant and even a firework in the shape of a heart, but I didn’t manage to catch it (sad face)

Oh but I did manage to wear my new hat, gloves and scarf

Happy Autumn

Which way’s which?

so as someone who doesn’t have children of her own be under no illusion that I enjoy adventure playgrounds just as much as the next.

So on Sunday I went, along with a friend and her small person to Brimstage Maze near Birkenhead.

This place has it all for ages 0-99, bouncing pillows, bouncy castle, space hoppers, swings, laser tag, obstacle course, zip line and 2 mazes.

There are 2 mazes, a small one and a large one. As we had small person I tow we chose the small one. To celebrate 150th anniversary of Alice in Wonderland the themes were related. The larger one to find quotes from the story and the smaller one the find the mad hatters teapots.

Good fun, even if we did only find 7 of the 10!

To recover and regather our wits we broke for tea, sandwiches and cakes at the onsite eatery.

This was a fun and relatively inexpensive day out! Fun for all, young and old

A stitch in time

another weekend another new thing to try. This time dress making. And yes this was another Groupon deal I bought. I’m sure in single handedly keeping  that site going!

There is a resurgence for all things vintage, and up cycled at the moment and making your own clothes fits right in there.

So I heading of to Dolly’s haberdashery and sewing school to join in with the picnic dress making session. The school is based in the centre of Warrington and has easy parking options.

I had already selected my fabric and submitted my dress size, all that was left to do was turn up and let the creativity flow.

The place is amazing a real treasure trove of fabric and odds and ends

The teacher Linsey is so helpful and enthusiastic that you can’t help but have fun and the end result was……….. Well see for yourself

So what can I make next?

Horsing around

Last week i was offered a chance to go horse riding by a friend. now i have no aversion to riding, a lot of my friends are very horsey but its just not something i have ever really been into.

we used to do little hacks, led by others when i was younger on holiday but that was always a once a year kind of deal.

i have other friends these days who are into jumping and showing, but its all a little alien to me.

any who i digress, last Saturday we headed of to a local centre and it was time to ride!

now as a larger person i have been steering clear of this activity as i think it is a little unfair on the animal to carry such a load but after my Bootcamp experience i thought it might be a little less straining on the animal.

we had a little lesson first on walking, turning and even a little trot, and more importantly getting the horse to stop

i was given a gorgeous horse called Tickle to ride

as you can see me and the horse had matching asses so i felt right at home

not saying that I’m suddenly going to join the jodhpurs wearing crew but i did enjoy it and may return for more

A night of (snow)boardom

Some of you may remember my  post a few weeks ago about my ski experience. Well I returned  last night to try my hand at snowboarding.

This was way harder then it looks and much harder then the ski lesson.

However the pusher in me loved the challenge. We were lucky and were the only 2 booked in this session so pretty much had a private lesson.

Once kitted we headed to the slope to run through the basics of board control.

We spent the session mastering how to use the edge of the board and our heels to control our speed down hill.

Unlike the ski session we ended up at the top of the beginner slope trying to get down.

I must admit I was pretty nervous and didn’t let go of the instructors hand, but I had a blast

So 1 hour, 50 mins and 5 spectacular falls later I think I know which discipline I want to carry on with

Now is a great time to check out  Chill factore as they have some great offers on.

Bootcamp Day 1

So 2 years ago almost to the day I attended a week at Northern Bootcamp, a northeast based bootcamp.
It was without doubt one of the best weeks of my life and without being overly dramatic can honestly say it changed my entire outlook on so many things.
I lost 15 lbs and 52cm, but gained so much from my time there.
So much so that I decided to treat myself to a return visit.
So friday afternoon I packed my nearly all new collection of t shirts,  workout pants and trainers and travelled across to the gorgeous Northumberland coast.
I’d opted for a 4 person share room as I thought it would be a great way to get to know other campers, and on these kind of things having a good set of people can really make the week.
Night 1 we did weights and measures, went for a nice little walk and then had some homemade tomato soup and oatcakes.

With instructions from the team to meet at 7am we attempted an early night.
So proper day 1 begins
We all met at 7 for a fitness test. Pairing up we tackled 2 mins of sit ups and push ups, hard but good as the figures are recorded for comparison later on. Then a drive to the beach for a warm up and before you know it it’s 2nd part of fitness test. The button run. This is where markers are set at 100m,  300m, 600m and 1k,  aim is to collect as many button in 30 minutes. Scores to be revealed later in week.

We were accompanied on our run by a pod of dolphins swimming close to the shore, a truly gorgeous site any time of day.
The  home for a rest and breakfast, scrambled egg, mushroom, spinach and some bread substitute toasted ( i later found put it was Rye bread) . Then the official welcome meeting with the team.
Next was a boxing circuit, followed by snack then outdoor larger circuit and dinner
The afternoon we got to choose either bike ride or sea kayaking.
Guess what I chose?!

And yes it was absolutely as cold as it looks,  more snacks then home for an abs blast class then tea including pudding, my favourite part of any meal

After today’s activities I’m definitely ready for bed and excited for tomorrow

Come back soon to see what else the guys at Northern Bootcamp have in store for us!

Makers market make me happy

In an effort to try new things and go to new places and generally live my life a bit more I set of last weekend so sunny Knutsford.
A friend had noticed the event advertised on good old Facebook via another friend and mentioned going, and I was all in.
The event is held almost every weekend at 4 different Cheshire / Manchester locations ( for locations and dates click here ), we opted for Knutsford as it was most convenient.
Now I don’t know if the sunny weather was to blame but I had a wonderful time. The street was closed of and decorated with bunting and all of manner decorated stalls.

After a couple of hours we headed home, not before stopping at Tabley House for afternoon tea and a look round the chapel

All in I had a brilliant day and will definitely be returning in future

Treats for me…….

So there’s nothing I love more then being busy, ok there is but I can’t spend all day eating cupcakes in bed.
Anywho by being busy I mean planning what to do with my time.
So last Sunday, after seeing a post on the old Facebook I decided to head to Hoghton Tower for a vintage craft fair.
Now I’d love to think I’m the kind of gal who can pull of vintage wear and still look cute, but as a slightly curvy girl I find its not always easy. Anyway I digress.
The weather wasn’t the best but my love of kitsch and cute won me over.
So after much looking, ooooooing and arrrrrring I settled on a scarf, head bands, greetings cards and a cute framed pic
