Horsing around

Last week i was offered a chance to go horse riding by a friend. now i have no aversion to riding, a lot of my friends are very horsey but its just not something i have ever really been into.

we used to do little hacks, led by others when i was younger on holiday but that was always a once a year kind of deal.

i have other friends these days who are into jumping and showing, but its all a little alien to me.

any who i digress, last Saturday we headed of to a local centre and it was time to ride!

now as a larger person i have been steering clear of this activity as i think it is a little unfair on the animal to carry such a load but after my Bootcamp experience i thought it might be a little less straining on the animal.

we had a little lesson first on walking, turning and even a little trot, and more importantly getting the horse to stop

i was given a gorgeous horse called Tickle to ride

as you can see me and the horse had matching asses so i felt right at home

not saying that I’m suddenly going to join the jodhpurs wearing crew but i did enjoy it and may return for more

It’s good to talk….

So todays assignment, to take inspiration from a previously followed/ read post.

So here goes, and i hope i don’t lose any of you who might not relate to this one.

I am currently half way through a little project i like to lovingly call ‘Operation who am i?’ (not really but sounds good hey?!)

A few years ago i got a wake up call.

I have been getting bigger and bigger since a traumatic incident in my early 20’s, one i am not going to go into now, and i finally saw some pictures and realised i didn’t recognise myself.

this is me and my mum, at her house on the day of my sisters wedding.

i cried, and still do when i see it. it’s hideous.

i had not long been to the hospital and found out that i couldn’t have children, well until i lost around 12 stone! to put that in perspective that is more than my sister weighs, i essentially needed to lose a whole person!

i was devastated, i had been kidding myself about my weight and size for such a long time but here it was for everyone, well mostly me to see.

how could i have been so blind?

this was 3 years ago. i have now lost around half what is needed. and that sadly was the easy part.

i have recently lost my motivation for why i started and seriously need to find my mojo.

have any one seen it?

but there is a bright side, because as you know i am not a negative Nelly.

i have lost half my goal, i am so much fitter and healthier then i was.

i am going to give myself sometime at the weekend to just sit down and map out the next part of my plan.

so there it is!

this blog is not purely focussed on my weightless journey because i am so much more then that but i will update at various milestones.

hope i didn’t lose to many of my new readers there

Day 6 and the final weigh in

So we’ve made it through to the last full day on camp. And if you were thinking that the team would start to take it easy on us  ……… you’d be wrong.
Our last ever morning cardio was the dreaded dune run, all I could remember from last time was that the more I ran the more sand I acquired.  And this was no different. But I managed to make it round 6 times which was great for me. Hardest part is the ‘run’ ( more like scramble) up the dune!
After 1/2 hour we were back to base for breakfast and then we had our 1-2-1’s with the trainers,  a little private time to reflect on way we’d done, and set out a plan for the future.  This is a great opportunity to really pick their brains and get some personal trainer time.

The straight into combo circuits, another tough session but we all gave it the final push!

After lunch it was our last set of team sports,  a ‘friendly’ came of Bucketball,  archery and volleyball. Sadly archery got rained of part way through but after a quick break we were straight back out.

Then final abs blast.  It seemed unbelievable that it had all ended again, the week just flew by.

So now I guess it’s what you’d all been waiting for the results.

So a final but of background.
My last visit to camp I was 2 1/2 stone heavier and i managed to lose 15 lbs and 52cm in the week.
Mindful that i was now lighter and fitter I was unsure what to expect………

Stepping on fhe scales i was so nercoid bur then Caroline told me she was shocked and my heart sank had i actaully put weught on! No the scores were in, i was now 18 lbs lighter and another 40cm smaller. That’s right 18 lbs in 6 days, I couldn’t believe it. All my hard work, sweat and aching muscles had all been worth it. I was now also the camps official biggest female loser on a 7 day camp and I still had the largest cm lost from previous camps.

I’m not sure the team will ever know how truly grateful I am to them but I will show them by carrying on and getting to my goal

Day 5 and the hills are alive….

Bootcamp day 5, and let’s see what’s on the cards.
First up the dreaded hill sprints! After a walk from camp to the gym we did the circuits we come to a small hill, well incline in the road.
We do some warm ups to make sure we are ready then head up and down the incline for around 15 mins to 1/2 hour. There are various markers on the hill and the aim was to complete as many ‘laps’ as possible.

Last time I was at camp I was unable to complete this particular activity due to bad blisters so I was determined to give it my best.
And I did, I was a total mess after but felt great

Then back for breakfast. Caroline then gave us a store cupboard talk running through some great staples to have handy any time of day.
Then outside with Dan for an energiser session to help wake us all up and ready to go again.

After snack it was a double circuit session which, I’m not going to lie was super tough.

Today’s activity was body boarding!  I kid you not, wetsuits on and down to the beach. This was such a great experience, just playing in the sea trying to catch a wave, wiping out more often then not!

After over an hour frolicking in the sea we headed back for abs and tea.

It hits home that this is my penultimate day and that the final weights and measures day is looming ever closer.

Cannot wait to find out what the last day will bring

Bootcamp day 2 – it starts get serious

Another day at  Northern Bootcamp another 7am start

today its running and Fartlek, this is form of HIIT (high intensity interval training) which requires changes of pace at various markers (if im remembering this correctly). The session was taken by the very lovely Bruce (yes Boss!!) all techniques and variations fully explained and demonstrated and off we go.

30+ very sweaty minutes later its all over and breakfast time, then a strength Seminar and a walk to indoor gym for Circuits

this was a tough session taken by Dave ( big softie deep, deep, deep down, i promise!) but did leave me looking like this!

then base to base for a snack and a kettlebell vs Suspension system (TRX) session. one of most groanworthy sessions, second day in and muscles are sore but earning every groan!

Dinner of chicken skewers and salad…. yummy yummy

then straight back out for team games! all hidden exercise and loved it, won’t spoil them for anyone thinking of going but they are great fun and really help you make friends with the other guys on camp great ice breaker!

every day ends with an abs blast, a half hour session concentrating on abs and core work! and as someone who has no core this is usually comedy town for me but i tried my best as always

then tea, tonight was a starter and main option

then a few of us decided take advantage of the free spa trip and headed down to use the jaccuzzi and steam room plus pool as a little relaxer before the next day

Bootcamp Day 1

So 2 years ago almost to the day I attended a week at Northern Bootcamp, a northeast based bootcamp.
It was without doubt one of the best weeks of my life and without being overly dramatic can honestly say it changed my entire outlook on so many things.
I lost 15 lbs and 52cm, but gained so much from my time there.
So much so that I decided to treat myself to a return visit.
So friday afternoon I packed my nearly all new collection of t shirts,  workout pants and trainers and travelled across to the gorgeous Northumberland coast.
I’d opted for a 4 person share room as I thought it would be a great way to get to know other campers, and on these kind of things having a good set of people can really make the week.
Night 1 we did weights and measures, went for a nice little walk and then had some homemade tomato soup and oatcakes.

With instructions from the team to meet at 7am we attempted an early night.
So proper day 1 begins
We all met at 7 for a fitness test. Pairing up we tackled 2 mins of sit ups and push ups, hard but good as the figures are recorded for comparison later on. Then a drive to the beach for a warm up and before you know it it’s 2nd part of fitness test. The button run. This is where markers are set at 100m,  300m, 600m and 1k,  aim is to collect as many button in 30 minutes. Scores to be revealed later in week.

We were accompanied on our run by a pod of dolphins swimming close to the shore, a truly gorgeous site any time of day.
The  home for a rest and breakfast, scrambled egg, mushroom, spinach and some bread substitute toasted ( i later found put it was Rye bread) . Then the official welcome meeting with the team.
Next was a boxing circuit, followed by snack then outdoor larger circuit and dinner
The afternoon we got to choose either bike ride or sea kayaking.
Guess what I chose?!

And yes it was absolutely as cold as it looks,  more snacks then home for an abs blast class then tea including pudding, my favourite part of any meal

After today’s activities I’m definitely ready for bed and excited for tomorrow
