Show Time

So what have I been up to I hear you ask (?). Well I’ve taken time off. Just been busy adulting, moving house, changing jobs etc and now I’ve turned 39. I know I don’t look it right. I celebrated as always be stringing it out and doing as much as possible with as many people, I have so far had 3 meals out, seen 2 London shows, 1 exhibition and a ballet. My OH took me to London for a couple of days and treated me to Mary Poppins the Musical, The Tutankhamun exhibition and to see the Mouse Trap. Then I caught the Moscow City Ballet’s The Nutcracker in Manchester

Mary Poppins

Having never read the book I only have the movie as a point of reference, there are a few deviations, I assume for logistical reasons, including a very bizarre scene with a giant puppet. I’m not sure if this would have scarred me as a child but as an adult it was fairly creepy. As always I bought a programme and also got myself a little key ring in the shape of the parrot headed umbrella, I did want to actually umbrella but was not parting with £32 for the privilege.

Tutankhamun Exhibit at the Saatchi gallery ( showing till 3rd May 2020)

Entrance fee £28 if ticket bought at the day (£25 if bought in advance)

Audio guide £6 (£5 if bought in advance)

This was right up my street I flipping love a historic exhibition, and this one did not disappoint. There were plenty of pieces which have never been shown outside of  Egypt, which was pretty special. The audio guide adds extra detail to the pieces with additional points form the collections curator. I wont spoil it to much but here are a few of my favourite pieces.

This is a very popular exhibit, as you can imagine, so you may have to wait a  little to see a particular piece but nothing that caused much of an issue.

The Mousetrap

This is one of my favourite shows, I had never seen it before and obviously as it’s a whodunit I’m not going to give it away. But O.M.G I loved it. Again bought a programme, and a magnet here. Please go and see this if you get chance. Not necessarily in London but if its ever on near you.

The Nutcracker

A friend unexpectedly had a spare ticket for this show in Manchester and as it was close to my birthday he decided this was the perfect way to get out of buying me a present. I gladly accepted the offer and went to see my second ballet. It was spectacular, performed by the Moscow City Ballet to Tchaikovsky,  and as this was music my dad used to listen to it was nice to see dance set to it and recognised a lot of the pieces. Loved it

So whats next……….

Favourite summer look

Summer, you remember that right? I think we had about a week of it here in the UK. Anyway blessed with a tan from my holiday to Jamaica I attended the wedding, well vow renewal of some old friends.

I’d had my eye on a maxi dress for some time, just a matter of finding the right one. Then after spotting this beauty on twitter I had to get it from Simply Be

It was perfect, I mean look at it.

The prefect summer dress. Teamed with summer wedges and this gorgeous embroidered bag from New Look.

Wedding outfit complete

All about holding onto those last sunny days………. oh and burgers

What I did on my holidays

So this years summer travels took me across the sea to beautiful Jamaica. More specifically the luxury Bahia Principe Runaway Bay and it was stunning.

The rooms were decked out with either a super deluxe king bed or 2 doubles, tv, fully stocked mini fridge, bottle of vodka and rum.  Jacuzzi bath, double sink bathroom, toilet, shower etc. But rooms are rooms anywhere.

We chose the luxury side as it was adults only, so no kids. Personally heaven for me. Unlimited visits to the a la carte restaurants, branded spirit drinks etc.

My favourites were the Jamaican and Japanese. Mainly for the food but the shows they put on are super fun. Oh and who doesn’t love a good buffet breakfast

The beach was exquisite, private and peaceful. I tried to get down there each morning before others arrived. Just to have some me time

Pools were clean with constant entertainment or quieter areas if you wanted to peace, grounds lush and green.

This was 2 weeks of relaxation, reading and rest

Below are a few of my holiday essentials;

Sunscreen and after sun lotions -stay safe

Books, with my personal recommendations

Sunglasses these are Joanie Clothing

Chub rub stick

Bug repellent

And the famous big cup, super for filling with cocktails and keep it them cool

Burlesque

So as part of my trying something new, and stepping out of my comfort zone adventures this year i have been taking Burlesque lessons.

Thats right Burlesque, though think less Cher & Christina and more Dita…….I Wish

I enrolled myself on a beginners course being ran by the Devine Lady Wildflower, 8 weeks of learning to walk, pose, remove gloves…… you get it right.

We are half way through and so far I’m loving it. Lady Wildflower has such a positive teaching style and not only looks to teach us to dance but also to love ourselves a little more and to shake of the feelings of embarrassment and boost our confidence.

So very week i don my heels ( a rarity for me), put on my gloves and sassily strut like no-ones watching!

Aint no Mountain high enough

Bowser this month My Little Box really went for it this month, after being slightly disappointed last month i am blown away.

So what did we get

img_5269

Socks – can never have to many right. these are little comfy socks, wear them round the house to keep the chill off. sticking reading cold feet on the back adds that cute little touch

img_5275

Lip balm – bright red, cute packaging and a lid that won’t jut pop off and leaving you with a balm covered in hair, fluff and whatever else you might have rolling round the bottom of your bag

img_5270

Benefit Porefessional – this is a product I used to use all the time. I fell out of love with it line as a whole, but I still have a soft spot for this one. Its a great little primer and really does take some beating

img_5273

Polar Icy Magic Eye Energiser – not heard of this product before but the note tells me that it helps to drain puffy eyes, erase dark circles and even boost eyelash growth. Will add it to my bag and try it out

img_5274

other little extras in this months box included a pin badge, a little posit-it note pad in the shape of mountains and a chunky ski snood knit pattern!

Have you tried any of these products before?

if so what did you think?

Box of LOVE

Its that time of the month again….. Glossy box time

As it’s February its all about the love so lets see what i got

img_5261

This moths offerings were;

La theorie des Volcans Face Scrub – I’m firm believer in a good ole scrub. Clear away the dead skin a build up of time and oils on your gorgeous face, always make me feel extra clean and ready to face the day. This is one with a twist, its also a face mask, apply and wait till it change to grey then wash away. Its paraben and silicone free, vegan and 90% natural! I cannot wait to try this out

img_5268

Jeanne Arthes – L’Eau de Rose – this literally smells like the rose perfume you tried to make when you were younger. By that I mean when you tried to make it and you thought how it would smelt, not the weird dead flower mess you were actually left with.  It is so light and breezy with a little hint of the gorgeous rose scent. This is my handbag bottle for the month!

img_5267

Mememe – Beat the Blues (oyster gold)- a skin illuminator to give you that light dewy finish. Will be trying this out on my next evening out…. whenever that may be

img_5265

Ciate in Fade to Greige – a gorgeously taupe colour to bridge that gap from winter to spring. Once my nails have recovered form the false nail removal I will be painting the town greige with this colour!

Things to think about before the big I DO

So just over a year ago I said I DO, and we did it our way.

Over the past decade or so I have been to so many weddings and watched so many people plan their big day and you know what I learned………nothing.

I’m not being flip, I mean I learned nothing. See I always knew what i wanted. Just me and ‘him’. That’s it, my wedding was going to be like my marriage, about us.

Now I know other people like to share with loved ones, family, friends etc, but We always knew it would be just us, that and abroad!

There are lots of fayres, venues, and people to tell you what you should do. But screw that. What do you want?

Now saying that I did do somethings traditionally, I went wedding dress shopping, tried a million shoes on, googled hair styles etc.

As some one who values my time I wanted to get as much done together a possible, for my dress I visited a specialist plus size supplier and had the best day trying on about a dozen dresses. Eventually I found the perfect one, I just knew!

As for shoes I googled wedding shoe suppliers for wide feet (I’m all about that comfort). One place that came up was Elegant Steps, down I went and there was so much choice. Heels (of all heights), flats, wide fits, every colour (gold, silver, cream, rainbow) and style you could think of.

I went away with a few ideas, sadly I injured my leg a week or so after therefore heels were out and comfort was in, I went with converse in the end. Perfect.

That became the theme of my day, comfort!

I am reminded of all this after being asked to contribute to Elegant Steps recent piece on how to make your wedding less stressful. I guess I was just lucky, I had the least stressful day ever, we went to Vegas and was in and out in 7.5 mins! What more could you want!

elegantstepsbloggertips_infographic

Good luck if you’re planning your big day.

My main tip – remember what you want and do that!!

*Although I was asked to contribute to the Elegant Steps piece all thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not paid as part of this piece
