Horsing around

Last week i was offered a chance to go horse riding by a friend. now i have no aversion to riding, a lot of my friends are very horsey but its just not something i have ever really been into.

we used to do little hacks, led by others when i was younger on holiday but that was always a once a year kind of deal.

i have other friends these days who are into jumping and showing, but its all a little alien to me.

any who i digress, last Saturday we headed of to a local centre and it was time to ride!

now as a larger person i have been steering clear of this activity as i think it is a little unfair on the animal to carry such a load but after my Bootcamp experience i thought it might be a little less straining on the animal.

we had a little lesson first on walking, turning and even a little trot, and more importantly getting the horse to stop

i was given a gorgeous horse called Tickle to ride

as you can see me and the horse had matching asses so i felt right at home

not saying that I’m suddenly going to join the jodhpurs wearing crew but i did enjoy it and may return for more

A night of (snow)boardom

Some of you may remember my  post a few weeks ago about my ski experience. Well I returned  last night to try my hand at snowboarding.

This was way harder then it looks and much harder then the ski lesson.

However the pusher in me loved the challenge. We were lucky and were the only 2 booked in this session so pretty much had a private lesson.

Once kitted we headed to the slope to run through the basics of board control.

We spent the session mastering how to use the edge of the board and our heels to control our speed down hill.

Unlike the ski session we ended up at the top of the beginner slope trying to get down.

I must admit I was pretty nervous and didn’t let go of the instructors hand, but I had a blast

So 1 hour, 50 mins and 5 spectacular falls later I think I know which discipline I want to carry on with

Now is a great time to check out  Chill factore as they have some great offers on.

Try something new

So at the beginning of the year I set myself a little challenge to try something new at least once a month.
And this weekend I tried trampolining.
Another bargain I found through the power of Groupon.
So of I headed on Friday night to Velocity,a new trampoline venue in Widnes.
After being ran through the safety rules and given our free socks we headed out.

The venue has 2 basketball areas to jump and slam dunk, a foam pit to bounce into,
As I so competently demonstrate below

image

There are also 2 smaller trampoline areas and one larger area where you may wish to attempt a somersault, I sadly did not!

I had such a great time and thoroughly recommend giving it a go

Already planning my next venture but am open to suggestions

Slope days

So im a fan of Groupon, I have bought a few things from there over the years, mostly spa days…….. ok ok I’ve only ever bought spa days!
However a few weeks ago I purchased an offer for beginners ski lesson at Chill Factore .
It’s something I’ve been wanting to try for a while and here it was, with around 60% discount!  Such a bargain

I had a blast, an icy blast but a blast nonetheless. Once kitted out the instructor Nikki,  took my little group of to the nursery slope for our intro to ski. The session last about 1 hour and 50, we covered safety, how to put on/ take of the ski, posture,  balance and then up the slope we went.
I managed to master parallel leg gliding and also the plough and plough with turn.

I fell, twice, but hey lost my ski virginity so it’s all good.

After the lesson I  was handed my record card and told that I’d passed level 1 and could progress to level 2!!

Before I commit to more lessons I’ve booked a beginners snow board class to see which I prefer.

I can’t wait to see if it’s something  new for me to pursue

Weekend pottering

Weekends are always a funny few days aren’t they, not long enough to do anything super productive but short enough to get the quick errands complete.
Now I am a great procrastinator, which is the great thing about blogging I guess. So I can set myself a task but find a 1001 ways to do anything but.
Until I get into the right head space then I’m all in.
Tidying and cleaning is my nemesis in this quest.
I don’t mean the quick flip the hoover round the room clean, I mean the deep spring clean,  floor scrubbing, wardrobe review clean.
So I took friday of work in order to do this……. and now it’s sunday evening and I am sat watching Gogglebox with 1/2 the house sorted.
Now this would normally feel like defeat
BUT
I did manage to complete my first Parkrun in pretty reasonable time

I did manage to set up my new computer

Book my wedding and honeymoon

Clean my bathroom, bedroom & kitchen

Do big food shop & cook a roast dinner

Celebrated  a friend birthday and supported another friends band who were playing locally

Cleared though my ever growing collection of Birchbox samples

Caught up with a friend and her adorable weeman

Plus I caught up on reading a few of the new blogs I follow

So tho I  love to procrastinate I still manage to get s**t done!

Does anyone really know you?

So I’ve decided to put a bit more effort into some thing in my life, and this little blog is one of them.

I started blogging in Oct 2014 but then didn’t write another post till January this year.
Mainly I realised I probably didn’t have much to say…..
I still don’t but I say it anyway because,  well why the heck not

So im revisiting my WHY and WHO questions.

My why, why, why? To be honest I don’t know. I have a friend so I consider quite ‘down with it’ ( god that make me sound ancient) who blogs. So I started reading some and following a few others on social media platforms and thought where are all the people like me?! Then I realised that there is only one me and maybe the world would like to know a little more……
That’s not entirely true I thought it would be a place to write about the things I like and things I’m thinking about that I don’t always want to have to justify to others ( come on Facebook own up you judge Judy you)

So the who, that’s slightly easier…..
I’m a northern (UK), 30…… something lady type person who is only just finding out who i am and what i like.

Things i like

1- working out/ trying to be healthy/ losing weight, now before you move on i don’t mean in a whooping, Lycra clad way, calorie obsessed way. I mean in a challenging myself changing my life kind of way, future posts will explain more stay with me on this one.

image

2 – i like clothes/ accessories, again stay with me on this one, I’ve spent 15 years dressing in black, baggy unflattering clothes and now i have colour and shape (not just round), as some of my OOTD pics on Instagram. And I love accessories,  mainly as I didn’t have any nice clothes for so long I learnt to love all the extras that go with

image

3 – I love beauty and make up products but never get round to starting any kind of regime, maybe I should start soon!

4 – i will take photos of absolutely anything, recently completed a photography course to learn how to take better ones, again expect plenty of pics popping up every now and then, apologies!

5 – reading and watching films are ny favourite ways to relax.

6 – i love to travel, don’t do enough, need to do more. Past 12 months have seen trips to Brugge, Mexico, Italy,  Dublin and an upcoming trip to the Dominican Republic.

7 – I have a pug, a relatively new addition to my life and he is the best ( not at all biased I assure you)

image

8 – I love stationery, more a slight obsession

9 – I have a lot of different hobbies and a master of none.  But I will give anything a go

Hopefully I haven’t lost you and maybe some of you will hang around for more

Day 6 and the final weigh in

So we’ve made it through to the last full day on camp. And if you were thinking that the team would start to take it easy on us  ……… you’d be wrong.
Our last ever morning cardio was the dreaded dune run, all I could remember from last time was that the more I ran the more sand I acquired.  And this was no different. But I managed to make it round 6 times which was great for me. Hardest part is the ‘run’ ( more like scramble) up the dune!
After 1/2 hour we were back to base for breakfast and then we had our 1-2-1’s with the trainers,  a little private time to reflect on way we’d done, and set out a plan for the future.  This is a great opportunity to really pick their brains and get some personal trainer time.

The straight into combo circuits, another tough session but we all gave it the final push!

After lunch it was our last set of team sports,  a ‘friendly’ came of Bucketball,  archery and volleyball. Sadly archery got rained of part way through but after a quick break we were straight back out.

Then final abs blast.  It seemed unbelievable that it had all ended again, the week just flew by.

So now I guess it’s what you’d all been waiting for the results.

So a final but of background.
My last visit to camp I was 2 1/2 stone heavier and i managed to lose 15 lbs and 52cm in the week.
Mindful that i was now lighter and fitter I was unsure what to expect………

Stepping on fhe scales i was so nercoid bur then Caroline told me she was shocked and my heart sank had i actaully put weught on! No the scores were in, i was now 18 lbs lighter and another 40cm smaller. That’s right 18 lbs in 6 days, I couldn’t believe it. All my hard work, sweat and aching muscles had all been worth it. I was now also the camps official biggest female loser on a 7 day camp and I still had the largest cm lost from previous camps.

I’m not sure the team will ever know how truly grateful I am to them but I will show them by carrying on and getting to my goal

I am already looking at dates for next year

If you are interested in finding more about the camp you’ll find it all here Northern Bootcamp
Or follow them on twitter @NorthBootcamp and they are also on Facebook

Day 5 and the hills are alive….

Bootcamp day 5, and let’s see what’s on the cards.
First up the dreaded hill sprints! After a walk from camp to the gym we did the circuits we come to a small hill, well incline in the road.
We do some warm ups to make sure we are ready then head up and down the incline for around 15 mins to 1/2 hour. There are various markers on the hill and the aim was to complete as many ‘laps’ as possible.

image

image

Last time I was at camp I was unable to complete this particular activity due to bad blisters so I was determined to give it my best.
And I did, I was a total mess after but felt great

Then back for breakfast. Caroline then gave us a store cupboard talk running through some great staples to have handy any time of day.
Then outside with Dan for an energiser session to help wake us all up and ready to go again.

After snack it was a double circuit session which, I’m not going to lie was super tough.

Today’s activity was body boarding!  I kid you not, wetsuits on and down to the beach. This was such a great experience, just playing in the sea trying to catch a wave, wiping out more often then not!

image

After over an hour frolicking in the sea we headed back for abs and tea.

It hits home that this is my penultimate day and that the final weights and measures day is looming ever closer.

Cannot wait to find out what the last day will bring

Stay with me not long to go now

Bootcamp day 2 – it starts get serious

Another day at  Northern Bootcamp another 7am start

today its running and Fartlek, this is form of HIIT (high intensity interval training) which requires changes of pace at various markers (if im remembering this correctly). The session was taken by the very lovely Bruce (yes Boss!!) all techniques and variations fully explained and demonstrated and off we go.

30+ very sweaty minutes later its all over and breakfast time, then a strength Seminar and a walk to indoor gym for Circuits

20150621_102740  20150621_102742

this was a tough session taken by Dave ( big softie deep, deep, deep down, i promise!) but did leave me looking like this!

20150621_115529

then base to base for a snack and a kettlebell vs Suspension system (TRX) session. one of most groanworthy sessions, second day in and muscles are sore but earning every groan!

Dinner of chicken skewers and salad…. yummy yummy

20150621_133852

then straight back out for team games! all hidden exercise and loved it, won’t spoil them for anyone thinking of going but they are great fun and really help you make friends with the other guys on camp great ice breaker!

every day ends with an abs blast, a half hour session concentrating on abs and core work! and as someone who has no core this is usually comedy town for me but i tried my best as always

then tea, tonight was a starter and main option

20150621_173015    20150621_173931

then a few of us decided take advantage of the free spa trip and headed down to use the jaccuzzi and steam room plus pool as a little relaxer before the next day
