Favourite summer look

Summer, you remember that right? I think we had about a week of it here in the UK. Anyway blessed with a tan from my holiday to Jamaica I attended the wedding, well vow renewal of some old friends.

I’d had my eye on a maxi dress for some time, just a matter of finding the right one. Then after spotting this beauty on twitter I had to get it from Simply Be

It was perfect, I mean look at it.

The prefect summer dress. Teamed with summer wedges and this gorgeous embroidered bag from New Look.

All about holding onto those last sunny days………. oh and burgers

Things to think about before the big I DO

So just over a year ago I said I DO, and we did it our way.

Over the past decade or so I have been to so many weddings and watched so many people plan their big day and you know what I learned………nothing.

I’m not being flip, I mean I learned nothing. See I always knew what i wanted. Just me and ‘him’. That’s it, my wedding was going to be like my marriage, about us.

Now I know other people like to share with loved ones, family, friends etc, but We always knew it would be just us, that and abroad!

There are lots of fayres, venues, and people to tell you what you should do. But screw that. What do you want?

Now saying that I did do somethings traditionally, I went wedding dress shopping, tried a million shoes on, googled hair styles etc.

As some one who values my time I wanted to get as much done together a possible, for my dress I visited a specialist plus size supplier and had the best day trying on about a dozen dresses. Eventually I found the perfect one, I just knew!

As for shoes I googled wedding shoe suppliers for wide feet (I’m all about that comfort). One place that came up was Elegant Steps, down I went and there was so much choice. Heels (of all heights), flats, wide fits, every colour (gold, silver, cream, rainbow) and style you could think of.

I went away with a few ideas, sadly I injured my leg a week or so after therefore heels were out and comfort was in, I went with converse in the end. Perfect.

That became the theme of my day, comfort!

I am reminded of all this after being asked to contribute to Elegant Steps recent piece on how to make your wedding less stressful. I guess I was just lucky, I had the least stressful day ever, we went to Vegas and was in and out in 7.5 mins! What more could you want!

Good luck if you’re planning your big day.

My main tip – remember what you want and do that!!

*Although I was asked to contribute to the Elegant Steps piece all thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not paid as part of this piece

Fashion & Me

SO i am plus size, curvy, fat, however you want to term it. Not something I’ve always been happy/ comfortable with, but hey thats life

In an effort to find new ways to be comfortable i treated myself to tickets to The Curve Fashion Festival, this this year held in Liverpool. The main aim of my visit was to check out all plus size brands and ranges who were showcasing their collections. and i wasn’t disappointed.

the room was filled with stands, with collections from  River Island, Simply Be, Navabi,Yours, Gemma Collins etc.

The centre of the room dominated by a catwalk and a how to stage where various events would be show cased during the day

There were also stands show casing independent brands such as Emmy Designs, Miss Beauty Curve and the Plus Size Bridal store Edith & Winston

I had such a great day and treated myself throughly ( reviews and posts to come). it was nice to be able to see the products, try them on and buy without having to order several sizes just to get one that fits. I hope to return next year for more treats

When in Vegas…..

Ok ok so I missed my Friday deadline. But I’m hoping you’ll forgive me

I have a good excuse, not a dog ate my homework excuse but genuine one. See I’m in a different time zone, well I’ve been in 3 different time zones over the past 6 days.

See now you remember im in America! Whoop

So what have I done this week I hear you ask( even if you haven’t I’m going to tell you anyway)

Well firstly I flew to fabulous Las Vegas

Did a little gambling, when in Rome and all that
Saw some magic and met some magicians

Saw a big hole

Oh and flew in a helicopter to the bottom of said hole

Oh yeah and got married!

Much more detail to come on all the above with links and info

But right now I’m in New York, honeymoon and all that jazz

Have an awesome week

A stitch in time

another weekend another new thing to try. This time dress making. And yes this was another Groupon deal I bought. I’m sure in single handedly keeping  that site going!

There is a resurgence for all things vintage, and up cycled at the moment and making your own clothes fits right in there.

So I heading of to Dolly’s haberdashery and sewing school to join in with the picnic dress making session. The school is based in the centre of Warrington and has easy parking options.

I had already selected my fabric and submitted my dress size, all that was left to do was turn up and let the creativity flow.

The place is amazing a real treasure trove of fabric and odds and ends

The teacher Linsey is so helpful and enthusiastic that you can’t help but have fun and the end result was……….. Well see for yourself

So what can I make next?

Does anyone really know you?

So I’ve decided to put a bit more effort into some thing in my life, and this little blog is one of them.

I started blogging in Oct 2014 but then didn’t write another post till January this year.
Mainly I realised I probably didn’t have much to say…..
I still don’t but I say it anyway because,  well why the heck not

So im revisiting my WHY and WHO questions.

My why, why, why? To be honest I don’t know. I have a friend so I consider quite ‘down with it’ ( god that make me sound ancient) who blogs. So I started reading some and following a few others on social media platforms and thought where are all the people like me?! Then I realised that there is only one me and maybe the world would like to know a little more……
That’s not entirely true I thought it would be a place to write about the things I like and things I’m thinking about that I don’t always want to have to justify to others ( come on Facebook own up you judge Judy you)

So the who, that’s slightly easier…..
I’m a northern (UK), 30…… something lady type person who is only just finding out who i am and what i like.

Things i like

1- working out/ trying to be healthy/ losing weight, now before you move on i don’t mean in a whooping, Lycra clad way, calorie obsessed way. I mean in a challenging myself changing my life kind of way, future posts will explain more stay with me on this one.

image

2 – i like clothes/ accessories, again stay with me on this one, I’ve spent 15 years dressing in black, baggy unflattering clothes and now i have colour and shape (not just round), as some of my OOTD pics on Instagram. And I love accessories,  mainly as I didn’t have any nice clothes for so long I learnt to love all the extras that go with

image

3 – I love beauty and make up products but never get round to starting any kind of regime, maybe I should start soon!

4 – i will take photos of absolutely anything, recently completed a photography course to learn how to take better ones, again expect plenty of pics popping up every now and then, apologies!

5 – reading and watching films are ny favourite ways to relax.

6 – i love to travel, don’t do enough, need to do more. Past 12 months have seen trips to Brugge, Mexico, Italy,  Dublin and an upcoming trip to the Dominican Republic.

7 – I have a pug, a relatively new addition to my life and he is the best ( not at all biased I assure you)

image

8 – I love stationery, more a slight obsession

9 – I have a lot of different hobbies and a master of none.  But I will give anything a go

Hopefully I haven’t lost you and maybe some of you will hang around for more

A tale of 2 dresses

So last week saw the outing of 2 new pieces of my wardrobe. 2 new but very different dresses.
The first was a cute little floral dress I’d picked up in an impulsive shopping trip the weekend  before. Teamed up with some old boots and standard a primark leggings I think it still look professional enough for a day at the office

image

Late that week i tried out another new dress but for an entirely different reason. My netball dress.
I recently joined a local team to help a friend out and although we are relatively new we seem to be doing well in our current league.
I play goal keeper, mainly because a) I’m not a massively competitive person so ‘fighting’ for the ball isn’t my style and b) I’m not super fit so a mostly static position is perfect for me.
Sadly we lost because we suffered and injured team mate and had no subs but was good fun all round

See you all On the flip side

New Year New…………

So the New year is well and truly under way and i seem to have spent the majority of it sat in my pyjamas feeling ill and watching movies. Not the worst start to a new year I’ve had but one of the least productive. I usually start of with a list of resolutions a mile long but so far this year i have been thoroughly demotivated to start any, and as such i am waiting until February to make and start mine.

All suggestions welcome!

I have however made some lovely dress purchases. A little new year sales treat to me here are my current favourites, The  first a little day dress from Lady V London, black with pink polka dots, planing to wear it in Italy and feel fabulous. the second is my very first wriggle dress, again from Lady V London, a little baggy as still not comfortable with tight clothes but as on sale thought I’d give it a go.
