Charity begins at home

Everyone has causes that get them right in the feels, be it animal, food banks, cancer or those that help children.  Alder Hey Children’s is always in my thought, partly because it’s local but also as I know how special they are in treating very sick children

Below is Alfie’s Story

Ten year old Alfred has lived with severe asthma since birth and has recently begun a research study at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital to look at ways to help the condition.
Alfred’s treatment includes permanent steroids, prescribed the highest level of seretide and taking both montelukast and theophylline tablets in addition to the injections which are given as part of the study. There are many triggers that set off his asthma, including all pets, grass being cut and his chest is often tight at night.
Alfred in on the autistic spectrum and in addition to the severe asthma, he has esophagitis -‐ a reflux condition which means he’s on even more tablets and is also tube fed. He is a chatty and clever young man and he loves reading and his dinosaurs!
The work they do can only continue with the publics help.If you can spare please head to Alder Hey Children’s and donate
Thanks

Sunday funday

Sunday’s are strange aren’t they?

Saturday’s are all about shopping, lunching, catching up with friends, partying and so on. But Sunday’s are just a pre-Monday build up, chores, food shopping, laundry, blah blah blah

Well this week I decided to go out for Sunday dinner! I know out for dinner, on a Sunday!

It’s so hard to find places that aren’t chains these days (well it is in my area). So when my friend asked me out to lunch we headed to somewhere I hadn’t been for a few years The Swan

But wait it’s now a chain also!

But we had some eating to do so asked for a table anyway, and I’m so glad we did

The inside was decorated so light and airy, with 3 separated eating areas. We were given 3. Menu choices, Main menu, fish specials and Sunday sepecials.

As always I can’t decide on starter or desert so spoiler alert I had all 3!

Starter of spinach soup

Not my usual choice but damn tasty

What do you do when you can’t decide which meat to have with your roast, that’s right all 3

And pudding had to be my new obsession salted caramel. The salted caramel, brownie and cheesecake sundae, but with no whipped cream extra salted caramel sauce, obviously

All in all a delicious afternoon!

Which way’s which?

so as someone who doesn’t have children of her own be under no illusion that I enjoy adventure playgrounds just as much as the next.

So on Sunday I went, along with a friend and her small person to Brimstage Maze near Birkenhead.

This place has it all for ages 0-99, bouncing pillows, bouncy castle, space hoppers, swings, laser tag, obstacle course, zip line and 2 mazes.

There are 2 mazes, a small one and a large one. As we had small person I tow we chose the small one. To celebrate 150th anniversary of Alice in Wonderland the themes were related. The larger one to find quotes from the story and the smaller one the find the mad hatters teapots.

Good fun, even if we did only find 7 of the 10!

To recover and regather our wits we broke for tea, sandwiches and cakes at the onsite eatery.

This was a fun and relatively inexpensive day out! Fun for all, young and old

A stitch in time

another weekend another new thing to try. This time dress making. And yes this was another Groupon deal I bought. I’m sure in single handedly keeping  that site going!

There is a resurgence for all things vintage, and up cycled at the moment and making your own clothes fits right in there.

So I heading of to Dolly’s haberdashery and sewing school to join in with the picnic dress making session. The school is based in the centre of Warrington and has easy parking options.

I had already selected my fabric and submitted my dress size, all that was left to do was turn up and let the creativity flow.

The place is amazing a real treasure trove of fabric and odds and ends

The teacher Linsey is so helpful and enthusiastic that you can’t help but have fun and the end result was……….. Well see for yourself

So what can I make next?

Makers market make me happy

In an effort to try new things and go to new places and generally live my life a bit more I set of last weekend so sunny Knutsford.
A friend had noticed the event advertised on good old Facebook via another friend and mentioned going, and I was all in.
The event is held almost every weekend at 4 different Cheshire / Manchester locations ( for locations and dates click here ), we opted for Knutsford as it was most convenient.
Now I don’t know if the sunny weather was to blame but I had a wonderful time. The street was closed of and decorated with bunting and all of manner decorated stalls.

After a couple of hours we headed home, not before stopping at Tabley House for afternoon tea and a look round the chapel

All in I had a brilliant day and will definitely be returning in future
